The Twilight Saga: New Moon – auditions parody by Sterlin Harjo

New Moon Wolf Pack Auditions from sterlinharjo on Vimeo.

Cinematographer Sterlin Harjo ’s (Creek/Seminole) hysterical parody of the audition process for The Twilight Saga: New Moon is “playful and schexy”. I’d like to see him create a full length feature along the same lines as this short film. I wonder how an spoof of the old classic PowWow Highway would play out.

Ryan Red Corn, (Osage) owner of Demockratees lends his personality to this skit along with Dallas Goldtooth, Bobby Wilson and Migizi Personeau.

Have fun and enjoy :-)

Alex Meraz and Kiowa Gordon on press tour for The Twilight Saga: New Moon - Miami, FL

So the MySpace pics of Alex Meraz floating are real. They were taken by Native American photographer Anthony 'Thosh' Collins. I just had to clear that up really quick. Cause he's mid air!!! You can also see Alex in the 2006 and 2008 '21st Century Skins Calendar' produced by Shaunya Manus of Viewfinder Productions Inc. And who could forget about this world famous shot taken by Mihio Manus.

Alex speaks on his culture and where he is from. Kiowa represents his tribe by wearing a shirt from The Hualapai Tribal Nation.

Shane Yellowbird returns to the forefront of the Canadian country music scene with his highly anticipated sophomore album, It's About Time. New Moon cast at Nordstrom - Aventura, FL

Alex Meraz "Paul" and Kiowa Gordon "Embry from The Twilight Saga: New Moon hosted an exclusive VIP event at Nordstrom in Aventura Mall, Miami, FL

Giddy girls and woman sworming everywhere. Note to self: maintain composure. It was hilarious!

Honestly, I did the best I could to get a quote from one of the 75 guests who attended. But… all I got were these moaning gibberish sounds. Like ughhhh, errr, etcetcetc. You get the point. And I think when a fan has hit that kind of emotional state, its best to just let them be.

All I can say is “All the glory goes to god, All compliments go to him”.

And… More of these two tomorrow from me to you.

What a rush to hear Shane Yelowbird live sing 'I can help you with that' at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards.

It was special.

A new album "It's About Time" will be released November 17, 2009.

Stevie Salas - Guitar God

So me and my sis get to the counter of Jet Blue to find out were three hours late for our flight. F*c K me in the A$$!! Right.

But that’s not it… the counter lady says we have to pay about $1000 to get back home to South Florida.
I felt like a sack of loser bricks.

But then a miracle happened. Stevie Salas is going through the check point the same time as we are! It was divine intervention. I truly believe this.

So you know, I don’t want to be a psycho stalker and be up his ass every step he takes. We go do our thing and strategically plan what is the best way to spend a few moments with this guitar god.

Having a conversation with Steve was spiritual. Like, there are no accidents in life. Fate.

We make our way back around the corner to where he is and he waves for us to join him. Stevie is great. He’s real. He’s just himself. I love people like that. All pretention’s aside. I ask if it’s ok that we do a mini impromptu interview and he was cool with it.

Conversations are great. They let you go anywhere you want. As opposed to questions that are scripted and basically have no life.

He asks if we got everything taken care of for our flight home. I said ‘ Yea, I need to pay better attention to detail’ and he’s like ‘Obviously’.
‘It’s my first time flying and I misread the itinerary’ I said. And he almost falls out of his chair like ‘what!, are you serious?’

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding ‘the morning after’ it was all worth it to sit with him and get to know the man who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards.

He has worked with Mick Jagger, Rod Stewart, George Clinton and Justin Timberlake. The music director of American Idol's Chris Daughtry, Jordan Sparks, David Cook , Allison Iraheta, Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. He is the host and executive producer of a show called ‘Arbor Live’ in Canada. He also works with the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian on contemporary music programming. He produces and develops other music artist.

This conversation went from here to there in a span of about 30 minutes. Here are the highlights.
  • ‘Working against ourselves is the stupidest thing we could do’ Stevie says. He went on to explain that in order for Native American entertainment to achieve mainstream status we need to compile all of our information in one spot like BET, Univision and Al Queda. The information includes publicity, managers and talent. Development from experts who have the knowledge on how to get us where were supposed to be.
  • I complimented his career. He says 'If I can do it, you can do it. You got to work harder and keep doing the best you can. Career is like mountains. There are ups and downs. Mountains and valleys. You wont always be hot and you wont always be cold.'
And then it was time for him to go. We took a couple more pictures. Said our goodbyes. And he went on his way to San Diego, CA.

The moments spent listening to him talk was the development I needed to get back on track. To return to my original plan and be do what I set out to do.

Stevie is life. He lives. No regrets.

REZ BOMB by Steven Lewis Simpson

It never fails that when a new Native American movie comes out we have to wait for months to actually see it. Luckily you can buy this now. But still....

When will it ever be possible that a Native American movie will be debuted (like Dances with Wolves) with the rest of the movies that hit the mainstream theaters? Like, who do I have to contact to complain about this to??

ALSO, Two Words! Russel Means. American Indian living legend. I start to pant when I think about him and the work he's done. I must've read 'Where white men fear to tread' like five times.

I have a thing for these early american indian civil rights leaders. Vine Deloria Jr., Floyd Red Crow Westerman, and John Trudell, another living breathing institution. Not a groupie 'thing' like I wanna throw my panties at you when I see you. Just a deep respect and admiration for what they endured so the Native Americans of today can have a better life.

BUT THE MOVIE!!! Its always great to see a new native movie. Especially when you cast beautiful (Tamara Feldman of Gossip Girl, IMBD says shes Cherokee) native people in it. And who doesn't like a compelling, gripping love story.

Rez Bomb may still be doing a screening tour so check @StevenLewisSimpson on Twitter for updates.

Michael Jackson 1958-2009

I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw Michael Jackson cast actual Native Americans for his video 'Black or White'. I appreciated not seeing a stereotypical image.

I felt that it helped alleviate the under representation for Native American's in Film and Television.

So today...finding out that this child star, icon, the King of Pop was dead it was surreal. Unreal was my first thought via Twitter.

Good, bad or indifferent, its a loss everyone is reflecting on.

Thank you for the music. Thank you for the videos. Rest In Peace.

As a proud Native American I wish to express my deepest sympathies to the Jackson Family and the children he left behind.
