Native talent for ‘Shift the Power to the People’

A Public Service Announcement, created by ‘Shift the Power to the People’ brings awareness for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in South Dakota. On January 31, 2010 the tribe declared a state of emergency after an ice storm hit the area cutting off electric and water. About 15,000 residents were left without these basic necessities during below-zero conditions. The storm also impacted the tribes water infrastructure which has left some homes inhabitable.

"In our treaties, the water running through our territories will always belong to the Lakota, we are near one of the largest bodies of fresh water in the United States, which belongs to us and we can't access it to build new homes and business, a nation made impoverished by this Government, after all that was done and our nations still held up to our end of the bargain - Chairman Joseph Brings Plenty"

Gil Birmingham, Q’orianka Kilcher, Alex Meraz, Chaske Spencer, Julia Jones are among the entertainers featured in this video.
