A Conversation with Ryan McMahon

Ryan McMahon was born and raised in Fort Frances Ontario. He is from the Treaty 3 Nation and his reserve is the Couchiching First Nation. A member of the Bear Clan, Ryan works with youth to try and heal the youth community by the Arts. As an artist, writer, a powwow singer and men’s traditional dancer, Ryan is happy to demonstrate to youth everywhere the importance of making positive contributions to the health and vitality of Anishinaabe people whenever and where ever possible.

Ryan is a two time National Aboriginal Achievement Award Scholarship winner, and was recognized by the Treaty 3 Nation with a Youth Leadership Award in 2002.

Ryan was named as an Eagle Staff Carrier for the Toronto Aboriginal Community during his time at the Native Canadian Centre of Toronto (N.C.C.T.) and he was also instrumental in the success of the Visiting Schools Program that promoted Anti-Racism Education and Cultural Awareness while employed with the N.C.C.T..

Ryan’s Anti Racism workshops can be delivered in your community. His workshop “Two Moccasins, Two Worlds” shares a message of hope, education, and Nationhood through cultural understanding.
